What does car interior cleaning at home include, and what is left out?
The service covers the passenger cabin: seats, headliner (the fabric lining of the roof), floor carpet and mats, the boot and the surfaces you touch. The Up specialist brings the vacuum, the extraction machine, the solutions and the protective covers to where the car is parked, and the work is done inside the car with the seats left in place.
Left out: washing the bodywork, paint polishing, ceramic coating, cleaning the engine bay, and any work on the car's electrical or air-conditioning systems. Those belong to a garage or a car-care centre. Seats can contain airbags, sensors and wiring, so we do not remove them or touch those parts. UpClean does the interior only, where its experience of sofa and chair cleaning applies.
Before starting, the specialist photographs the interior as found, including existing tears and peeling. Take the car's documents and any valuables out beforehand; other personal items are put in a separate bag and returned at the end.
How are fabric seats, leather seats and the headliner cleaned?
| Part or material | Method |
|---|---|
| Fabric seats | Vacuumed thoroughly, spot-treated, then cleaned with the extraction machine: the solution is sprayed in and drawn straight back out with the dirt and most of the water. The seat is never flooded, so water does not soak deep into the foam. |
| Genuine and synthetic leather | Cleaned panel by panel with a mild solution and a soft brush, dried at once, then conditioned. No strong cleaners and no wet washing. Existing cracks and peeling are recorded; cleaning cannot restore them. |
| Perforated, heated or cooled seats | Very little solution and a well-wrung damp cloth, so that nothing soaks into the perforations or the components underneath. |
| Headliner | It is glued in place and can come loose or sag if it gets wet. It is cleaned with a cloth and a low-water solution, one mark at a time, and never sprayed directly. |
| Floor and boot mats | Loose mats are extraction-cleaned or scrubbed outside the car; fitted carpet is extraction-cleaned in place with as little water as possible. |
| Child car seats | Removable fabric covers are cleaned as the manufacturer's label directs. Harness straps are wiped on the surface only and never soaked. |
Which stains and smells can be removed from car seats?
Each stain needs its own treatment, and a wrong first move, such as hard rubbing or hot water, can spread it and set it deeper. The table shows how a specialist approaches the common ones.
| Stain or smell | Treatment and usual result |
|---|---|
| Coffee, milk tea, soft drinks | Blotted dry, spot-treated with a solution suited to the material, then extraction-cleaned. An old stain may leave a faint ring. |
| Milk and a child's vomit | Organic stains tend to leave a smell, so the fabric is cleaned through and the cabin deodorised afterwards. Tell us early, before the stain soaks into the foam. |
| Sweat on headrests and seat edges | A yellowish mark builds up over time; extraction with spot treatment lightens it clearly. |
| Grease, lipstick, pen ink | Tested on a small spot first. Some inks and dyes may not come out completely, and you are told before work starts. |
| Pet hair | Lifted with a dedicated vacuum head and a rubber brush before cleaning, above all on fabric seats and the boot carpet. |
| Damp, mould or pet odour | Usually drops clearly once the source in the seats, carpet and headliner has been cleaned and the cabin deodorised. A car that has been flooded may keep a smell from the sound insulation under the floor, which a garage has to open up and check. |
Can the car be cleaned in my driveway or apartment car park?
Yes, wherever cleaning is permitted where the car is parked: a driveway, the garage of a townhouse or villa, or an apartment basement if building management agrees. Many buildings have their own rules on service work in the basement, on using the power supply and on waste water. Ask management first; we send the specialist's name and photo so that you can register the visit.
The extraction machine needs a power socket. Dirty water is collected in the machine's tank and disposed of in the proper place, never tipped onto the basement floor. If there is no suitable spot, the specialist will agree another location that is convenient for you.
How long do car seats take to dry after cleaning?
Because the extraction machine recovers most of the water, fabric seats are left slightly damp, not soaked. Full drying depends on the material, the thickness of the foam, the weather and the ventilation, and takes longer in the humid rainy season. Leather is wiped dry at once and can be used sooner. The specialist gives you an expected drying time at handover.
To speed it up, leave the windows slightly open when the car is parked somewhere safe, run the aircon on fresh-air intake when driving, and avoid sitting on the seats in wet clothes for the first few hours.
How much does car seat cleaning cost?
There is not yet a single price for every car model. Most cars can be quoted from photos: send pictures of the seats, headliner and carpet, with the model and the number of seats. Unusual cases are surveyed free of charge. The written, all-inclusive quote does not change unless you agree in writing, and it states the expected duration so that you can plan when you need the car.
| Factor | What we need to know |
|---|---|
| Number of seats | A 4–5 seater, a 7-seater or a vehicle with more rows. |
| Material | Fabric, genuine leather, synthetic leather or perforated leather; each has its own steps and time. |
| Extras | Seats only, or also the headliner, floor carpet, boot carpet, door cards and dashboard. |
| Dirt and odour | Ordinary dust, or old stains, food or pet smells, or mould after flooding. |
| Location and hours | Power supply, working space and the rules of the building where the car is parked. |
Can I clean car seats myself, and how often should the interior be cleaned?
Vacuuming, wiping leather with a damp cloth and blotting spills at once are jobs to do yourself, regularly. Washing fabric seats with a cloth and a bucket is different: it usually leaves too much water in the foam, so the seats dry slowly, pick up a damp smell and dry with water marks. All-purpose cleaners can fade fabric or dry out leather.
A specialist makes sense when the seats have many stains, the cabin smells, the headliner needs cleaning, or before selling a car or taking over a used one. For a car in daily use, cleaning the interior every few months keeps the colour of the seats and a pleasant cabin; cars that often carry young children or pets, or in which people eat, need it more often. Between visits:
- Vacuum the seats and carpet regularly, above all the seat gaps where crumbs collect.
- Blot spilt water or coffee with a dry cloth without rubbing it wider.
- Wipe leather with a well-wrung damp cloth; avoid alcohol wipes and strong cleaners.
- Do not leave damp items, wet umbrellas or wet mats in a closed car for days.
- Use a seat cover when carrying pets or when children eat in the car.
