What does a plant care visit include?
Each visit by an Up specialist, a member of UpClean's identity-verified and trained staff, starts with looking and checking, and a plant is watered only if it needs it. Most indoor plants decline because they are watered too much or stand in the wrong place; few suffer from too little water.
Each address has its own record sheet listing the species, position, amount of water and last feed of every pot. Whichever specialist makes the visit, the care stays consistent and an unusual change in a plant is noticed early. Afterwards you receive an Up Report by WhatsApp or Zalo with before-and-after photos and notes on the condition of the plants.
| Task | What is done |
|---|---|
| Moisture check | Soil moisture is tested at the surface and deeper down. A plant is watered only when it needs it, and water standing in the saucer is poured away. |
| Pruning | Yellow and wilted leaves and dead stems are removed, and overlong shoots cut back so that the plant stays balanced and airy. |
| Leaf cleaning | Dust dulls the leaves and limits photosynthesis, so large leaves are wiped with a clean damp cloth. |
| Feeding | On a cycle suited to each plant group, in moderate doses. A plant weakened by waterlogged roots is not fed. |
| Pest and disease check | The undersides of the leaves, the leaf joints and the base are inspected to catch mealybugs, spider mites and fungal disease early. |
| Repotting | When the roots have filled the pot, the plant moves to a larger one with a loose, free-draining potting mix. |
Can someone water my plants while I am away?
Yes. UpClean makes scheduled visits while you are travelling: the specialist checks each pot, waters, empties standing water, clears fallen leaves and sends an Up Report so that you can see the plants from wherever you are. Long trips are when house plants wilt fastest, above all in the dry season.
Access is agreed in writing beforehand: how the key or access card is handed over, registration with the building management, and which parts of the home the specialist may enter. You receive the specialist's name and photo before each visit; many apartment buildings ask residents to register outside staff, and these are the details you need for that. The specialist works only within the agreed area.
Why do plants struggle in an air-conditioned apartment or on a high-rise balcony?
Conditions indoors are very different from a garden: light comes mostly through glass, the air is dry from long hours of aircon, and there is little air movement. A plant deep in a room tends to stretch and turn pale. One against west-facing glass can scorch at the leaf edges in the dry season. The specialist suggests turning the pot at intervals or moving it to a better position, in place of simply giving more water.
A high-rise balcony takes reflected sun and strong wind, and the soil in a pot dries much faster than indoors. Balcony pots must stand securely, never on the railing, and water must not run off to the floor below. When repotting, we prefer pots with a sealed saucer and a lightweight mix, and we follow the building's rules on what may be kept on a balcony.
The seasons matter too. In the dry season moisture needs checking more often, small balcony pots most of all. In the rainy season an outdoor pot waterlogs easily once its saucer fills, so watering is reduced to match.
What is wrong with my plant? Common signs and what they mean
A plant usually signals trouble early, through its leaves and its base. The table helps you read the signs yourself; the exact cause is confirmed when the specialist examines the plant.
If a plant-protection product is needed, UpClean uses only a legally permitted product at the dose on the label, and in an enclosed space prefers mechanical and local treatment.
| Sign | Usual cause and response |
|---|---|
| Yellow leaves, a soft base, soil that smells | Usually too much water or a pot that drains poorly. Water less, check the roots and, if necessary, replace the potting mix. |
| Drooping leaves with dry, brittle edges | Too little water, harsh sun or an aircon blowing straight onto the plant. The watering schedule and the position are adjusted. |
| White cottony spots or fine webbing | Signs of mealybugs or spider mites. The affected spot is treated early and the pot moved away from the others. |
| Long, stretched growth with small, pale leaves | Too little light. Move the pot nearer a light source or choose a shade-tolerant species. |
Which indoor plants suit an apartment in Ho Chi Minh City?
Start from the light the spot really gets, and only then from the leaf shape you like. Apartments here are usually bright beside the glass, darker further into the room and dry from long hours of aircon. Many households choose from the groups below, and the specialist makes a specific suggestion after seeing the position. New plants, pots and potting mix are quoted separately and supplied only if you agree.
With dogs or cats at home, bear in mind that some common plants, among them peace lily, pothos and monstera, can cause irritation if a pet chews the leaves: place them high up or choose another species. Plants make a room feel calmer and look better, but they do not replace ventilation and regular cleaning.
| Position | Plants that suit it |
|---|---|
| Low light, away from the window | Snake plant, ZZ plant, pothos. They tolerate weak light and long gaps between watering, which suits a busy household. They still need indirect light, not a completely dark corner. |
| Bright indirect light, near the glass | Peace lily, monstera, fiddle-leaf fig, parlour palm. Attractive foliage that needs even light, and watering once the top layer of soil is dry. |
| Sunny balcony | Cacti, succulents and other sun-loving plants. They need a fast-draining mix and infrequent watering, with no water left standing in the saucer during the rainy season. |
| Air plants | No soil. Mist them or soak them briefly, let them dry completely, and keep them somewhere bright and airy. |
Do you maintain plants for offices and building lobbies?
Yes, on a regular contract. Office plants shape a visitor's first impression and make the workplace more pleasant, yet looking after them is usually nobody's job, so they are forgotten or watered a little by everyone. UpClean gives the task to a single point of contact with a schedule and a task list.
- Visits are arranged outside peak hours or within the hours the building allows.
- Plants are listed by location (lobby, reception, meeting rooms, work areas) so that each pot can be tracked.
- The Up Report after each visit tells the office administrator the state of the plants without a walk round.
- Payment follows acceptance of the work, and VAT invoices are issued.
- A declining plant is replaced only as the contract provides and after approval.
How much does a plant care service cost?
The price is an all-inclusive quote for each address, given after a free survey on site or from photos and video. The quote states the visit frequency, the tasks at each visit and what is charged separately, such as repotting or supplying new plants. Nothing is added without your written agreement.
| Factor | How it affects the quote |
|---|---|
| Number and size of pots | Large pots and tall plants take longer to wipe and prune than desk plants. |
| Visit frequency | Weekly, fortnightly or seasonal, depending on the species and where the pots stand. |
| Extras | Repotting, new potting mix and replacement plants are quoted separately and carried out only once approved. |
| Access | Plants placed high up, multi-storey lobbies or work required outside office hours. |
How do I look after house plants between visits?
A few rules prevent most of the common problems, whether you care for the plants yourself or have us visit.
- Water by soil moisture, not by the calendar: press a finger into the soil, water only when the top layer is dry, water thoroughly, then empty the saucer.
- Use pots with a drainage hole. Waterlogged roots cause yellow leaves and a rotting base more often than drought does.
- Do not leave water standing in saucers and pots, which is where mosquitoes breed easily. If there are many mosquitoes around the home, UpClean's own pest-control technicians carry out mosquito treatment as a separate service.
- Feed with diluted fertiliser at intervals while the plant is putting out new leaves; feed less when growth slows or just after repotting.
- Wipe dust from the leaves with a soft damp cloth. The plant photosynthesises better and you spot insects under the leaves sooner.
- Turn the pot from time to time so that the plant does not lean one way.
- Repot when roots show at the surface or grow out of the drainage hole, into a pot only moderately larger.
- White spots, webbing or oddly curled leaves: move that pot away from the others and send the specialist a photo before using any product yourself.
Do I need a plant care service, and which areas do you cover?
A few easy plants can be looked after at home: water when the top layer of soil is dry, empty the saucers, wipe the leaves once a month and keep the pots near a window with diffused light. A service is worth having when there are many plants, the plants are valuable, the household is often away, or an office needs one party to be responsible.
Up specialists work regularly in An Khanh ward (Sala, Thu Thiem, Thao Dien), Binh Trung, Cat Lai, Phu My Hung (Tan My and Tan Hung wards), Thanh My Tay (Binh Thanh), the former Districts 1, 3 and 4, the former Phu Nhuan and Nha Be commune, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM every day. Bookings are also accepted in Districts 5, 6, 8, 10, 11 and 12, Go Vap, Tan Binh, Tan Phu and the former District 9, with the appointment confirmed when you book. The city replaced its districts with wards on 1 July 2025, but most people still use the district names.
